J. Zachary Sanborn
Chief Technical Officer
Zack is a native Californian with an aptitude for processing big datasets. He studied Applied Physics at Harvey Mudd College, followed by a short 4-year stint on the east coast working for the Department of Defense designing and testing sonar arrays for submarines. Despite the relative lack of overlap, processing massive amounts of sonar data was good practice for Zack’s entrance into the world of genomics.
He is one of the co-founders of Five3 Genomics and is currently in the final stages of finishing his Ph.D., studying under Dr. David Haussler at University of California, Santa Cruz. Zack’s primary research is in efficiently scouring sequencing datasets from paired tumor & matched normal samples to accurately identify all types of somatic variants specific to the tumor sample. Throughout this work, Zack honed his skills at producing useful tools for visualizing genomics data, including being the primary developer of the UCSC Cancer Genomics Browser.
